Unread postby grandevaulter » Fri Jul 08, 2016 12:22 am

This year promises to be a tremendous clinic that summarizes Alan Launder and John Gormely's book "From beginner to Bubka and Isenbayeva too". Saugatuck High School coming off it's third State Championship season in four years (and a runner up) will be the site of the memorial clinic honoring Alan Launder.

July 25 and 26, 2016

Saugatuck Track and Field presents "From Beginner to Bubka and Isenbyeva"
pole vault clinic inspired by Alan Launder and his description of the
Petrov/Bubka technical model.

Feature coach this year is: Coach Phil Eichbauer from Beaverton and Alma College, Phil has successfully coached two state champions and the D-4 State meet record holder using the Petrov/Bubka technical model. Phil has attended and assisted both Alan Launder and Bubka team mate Roman Botcharnikov at Slippery Rock.

Special guest and Camp Counselors: Curtis Bell and Erin Droulliard. Curtis is the Division 4 State record holder, three time national qualifier from Aquinas College and an NAIA All American finishing 2nd at outdoor Nationals with a jump of 16' 6 3/4”. Curtis attended the inaugural Saugatuck Clinic and brings first hand knowledge of his work with Alan Launder. Curtis will share with campers keys to his improvements that lead to an exceptionally successful season.

Erin Droulliard, Aquinas College record holder 12' 7 1/4”, Four time Nationals Qualifier and USTGCCCA Great Lakes Field athlete of the year brings campers her experiences on her amazing season and will demonstrate to campers how she accomplished this. Erin also attended the first Alan Launder Clinic here and will expound on how she exploits elements of the Petrov/Bubka Technical model.

This Clinic is directed by George Sipes, Assistant Track Coach at three time State Champion, Saugatuck High School, George has coached an individual State Champion in the pole vault and multiple all state athletes during his six years. Coach Sipes started working with Alan Launder in 2011 and remained in close communication with Alan until Alan's death in 2014.

Coach,

This clinic sounds GREAT!

I am so happy to see clinics exposing the Petrov/Bubka Model as Alan has show to us in his books and videos. This is what we use as a base and we will continue forward with it.

Keep the "message" alive!

Cheers,

PV-ATL

 Yes!

Thanks for dedicating your clinic to the memory of Altius! :rose:

If I recall, I think you did that last year too!

Kirk

p.s. PVP has not been the same without him. No more English idioms, like "don't get your knickers in a knot" ... "spot on mate" ... "Pull your head in mate" ... "Stop trying to teach us elders how to suck eggs!" :crying:

Not to mention all his great technical advice!
Run. Plant. Jump. Stretch. Whip. Extend. Fly. Clear. There is no tuck! THERE IS NO DELAY!

Thank you Kirk!

At practice tonight we worked on the very drills that Altius showed us when he came and I told the kids stories about the names that he called the kids. At the end of the clinic the approach runs of ALL the campers looked greatly improved and none had any skin left on their hands from the high bar.

I remember the first day after he nearly made some cry and slapped one kids hand to get him to hold the pole correctly. They were all terrified. The following day I had to run errands for Altius and I missed part of the morning session. When I entered the video/lunch room ALL the campers were huddled around him. He was signing books and having laughs with them. Amazing how they warmed up to him.

As long as I continue this clinic it will be a memorial clinic. Thank you again for the kind words Kirk!!
