A friend showed me this drink he had at practice the other day, he said it converts lactic acid into oxygen and... something I forget.HAs anyone ever heard of this and had any success with it? I don't remember the name of it, only that it was in a green bottle.

Lactic acid is a byproduct of Anaerobic gycolysis and it can be converted back into glucuse via gluconeogenesis in the liver. I don't want to bash your friend but I'm about 99% sure he is feeding you bulls***. Chances are this energy drink claims it speeds up the process of gluconeogenesis, but I highly doubt that happens either.

Lactic acid gets such a bad wrap, and most of the stuff you hear about it is bs. It doesn't dissolve your muscles, it doesn't stay in your body for days and cause soreness (it is actually cleared out of the system quite rapidly). Besides, as a pole vaulter you are working in the ATP/CP cycle, so you shouldn't have to worry about speeding up the reuptake of lactic acid... unless your run is about 400m long

If it wasn't for lactic acid, we wouldn't be able to do ANY anaerobic sports.....it is some good stuff......and the drink is total crap. It doesnt' make the least bit of sense.

Agreed. I wasn't saying that he would only be working in that one energy system, most if not all physical activity is fueled by a combination of different energy systems working together.
