Serious back pains after pole vaulting

Unread postby Cruz » Thu Dec 08, 2011 4:29 am

I do pole vault. I started to have back pains after a session sometime during last month. Since then, every time I land on the bed after my vault, my back hurts and it knocks the blow out of me. Things just got worse recently as sometimes I couldn't even get up from the bed after my vault. Most recently, just a few days ago, I was training all alone and after my first vault and landing, my back hurt so bad that I had to lie on the bed for almost 1 full hour before I could get up unassisted. My landing is not the problem, I land flat on my backs with my hands and legs fully extended (the same position as all professional vaulters land). The bed is not the problem, it is a new one with exactly the same foam type and density as those used in the 2008 Beijing Olympics (Many claimed it to be the softest landing bed ever).

So what could be the problem?

You are probably taking off under every time you vault
