Ive been trainig pole vaulting for 6 months now and was wondering about all this weight lifting. Before pole vault I was an artistic gymnast for 10 years, I was in the Icelandic national team and went to many european championships and other competitions. I am not questioning anything, I am just looking for opinions. Like should a pole vaulter do a lot of weight lifting or should he focus on lifting himself (muscle ups and dips and more). I have also noticed that in my club the kids dont do enough shoulder warm up, not enough stretching and dont train the little muscles that hold everything together and prevent injury. Again I am just looking for opinions to help me, I am not dissing anyone just wondering about this.
