Week Training Schedule

Okay... my coach and I are kind of baffled as to what should be done this week. We have 3 meets scheduled. This is how it looks:

Monday- Light Practice
Tuesday- Meet (they have a few vaulters, about 3ft below me)
Wednesday- Light practice
Thursday- Meet (they have 0 vaulters)
Friday- Light practice
Saturday- Valley Wheel Championships (as far as I know, there are only 2 or 3 qualified for polevault, including myself).


My coach wants to work with me on trying to get my turn started a little earlier, along with pushing off the pole harder and sooner... but we were kind of stuck on deciding how to go about this b/c of the amount of meets and she doesn't want to burn me out. I know I could probably treat Thursday as a rest and take 1 jump to just to win and get the points and Saturday she wants me to go big.

If anyone could give a few suggestions as what to do, dealing with this hectic week... I appreciate it. Thanks ahead.

don't sweat the small stuff. Get the points, and then treat it like practice. Set the bar at a reasonable height (assuming you've already won) and just continue to jump easy heights just to get some jumps in.

Basically at these upcoming meets... I'll just have to jump like 10' or 10'6" to win.

what's your PR? are 10 or 10-6 easy jumps for you?

Hey Ross - we've got nearly the same schedules - we've got meets Monday vs. Marlborough, our League championship Wednesday and our central ma class championships saturday thanks to the rain. I don't know if we're gonna get ANY of those meets in as the weather report is still crappy.

How's your leg doing? if it's fine and the weather holds out i would use those Tuesday & Thursday meets as good practice sessions - get lots of jumps in but also try for some high stuff on the new stix if you're feeling good. You wanna be able to feel the timing of those poles before you get to the meets that really matter.

My PR is 12'3" and I usually open at 11' or 11'6".


Doug, the leg's doing pretty good... I've been taking it light the past two weeks at practice so the troubles are gone for now. Thanks, I'll let ya know how this week goes (rain or shine!)

We have a double dual today (because Tuesday's was postponed). So I figure I'll jump a height to get the points... then try out the bigger sticks and see what happens from there.

usually you want to take full jumps 2 or 3 times a week, so you should be fine, just dont tire yourself out at first. If anything, i think that would help with your jumping at the final meet.
