broken back

Unread postby GeorgeN » Sat Sep 30, 2006 3:53 pm

I have had back problems in the past that were corrected using "prolotherapy". This shortens and strengthens stretched vertebral ligaments which have been damaged thru use and allow the vertebrae to move and cause back pains.
I am curious to know what alerted you to th e broken vertebra. Was it pain, and injury, or was it found during normal exam? Most people have slipped disks, stenosed nerves, curved spines, etc and these are not pathological ( cause no problems), and do not require to be repaired.

i felt some pain while lifting last tuesday and went to the trainers because i was a little concerned about why it was painfull.they couldnt make a diognosis so they sent me for x-rays and read them on friday morning and told me it was a stress fracture. and it has just been a kinda dull pain since tuesday but nothing before tuesday so i dont really know what happened

stress fracture in vertebra

Unread postby GeorgeN » Sat Sep 30, 2006 4:56 pm

I would be very skeptical. X-rays cannot determine pain in the spine. Look up prolotherapy online. NFL players use it now instead of surgery.
A famous study was performed by the US Army about 15 years ago on 10,000 new recruits. The conclusion was that x-rays, MRI's and cat scans cannot be used to determine the cause of back pain, unless you have a tumor or were in an accident ( fracture). Almost every one at some time in their will have back pain and 99 percent of the time it goes away in 6 months.
Get another opinion.

Make sure you see a good doctor.

Get CAT Scans.

Have a real doctor (Back doctor) look at them.

Go from there.

It will be fine....back stuff works out I guess.

I have almost recovered 100% after surgery...so yea.

If the x-ray really showed a stress fracture, you must have had it before Tuesday.

Stress fractures don't really show up on X-rays, it is the bone's reaction to the fracture that shows up.

It is entirely possible that the pain is not caused by the fracture, that something else is causing it.

Whatever the case, more tests ought to help make things more clear.

The bone scan will tell you whether it really is broken or not. I was under the impression for over a month that my back was broken from two x-rays and an MRI that they had taken....bone scan set them straight and saved me from three months in a plastic brace.
