From the BBC blog...
1947: Yelena Isinbayeva waggles the bar fractionally too much to set a new world record - it comes crashing down eventually, but for an agonising moment it looked as though we had a new pole vault mark.

Stuczynski second to Russian pole vaulter in tuneup meet
STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS • JULY 25, 2008

American record-holder Jenn Stuczynski of Riga finished second to world record-holder Yelena Isinbayeva of Volvograd, Russia, today in the pole vault at the Aviva London Grand Prix Track and Field meet.

Isinbayeva vaulted 16 feet, 2 inches (4.93 meters), coming close to her world record, while Stuczynski vaulted 15 feet, 9 inches (4.81 meters) in what is expected to be the last tuneup before their showdown at the Olympics in Beijing next month.

Isinbayeva broke her own world mark with a 16-6 vault July 11 in Rome. Stuczynski holds the American record of 16-1 and 3/4, set at the Olympic Trials in early July.

Isinbayeva, who has set the world outdoor record 13 times, cleared the bar on her third attempt at 16-6 and 1/4 today but it fell off the pins during her descent.

Isinbayeva failed with her first two attempts after entering the competition with the bar at 15-6 and 1/2. She cleared the third attempt easily and went on to clear two higher settings before the world record attempts.

Stuczynski passed at 16-2 and made two unsuccessful attempts at the world record in tandem with Isinbayeva.

“I am very disappointed because I really felt I could jump a world record today,” Isinbayeva said through an interpreter on www.guardian.co.ik. “It’s my third competition in a row and I’m a little bit tired. Beijing is going to be a hard competition and it might be necessary to break a world record to win,” she said.

hey

isi's run looked great.. looked like she wanted it pretty badly...

still think she could stay "behind" the pole more (which to me means she is passing the "cord" early) and not move it "left' as much, as early, giving her more off the top..and a chance to "cover the arc"

jenn looked really fast.. love it..

it did look like jenn was so intense and fast she over rotated (hips and shoulders)on the run causing here to "over plant" ... top hand over the left ear instead of "down the middle." taking the force through and up might give her some serious height...

great competition.. the coverage here is really nice..
