Yikes! I WAS asleep at the wheel on this one!
Thanks for the heads up, RG!
I had not expected Shawn to compete so early after his Pan Am Games 5.80 gold medal clearance.
He continues to amaze me (as well as most other PV fans around the world) by consistently upping his Canadian record. 5.93 is a fantastic height to clear just 4 days after the Pan Ams, and he's now back to being the 2nd highest vaulter this year!
The only news report I could find on google so far is here:
http://www.brandonsun.com/sports/breaking-news/pan-am-gold-medallist-shawn-barber-betters-his-canadian-pole-vault-record-318531991.html.
The 21-year-old cleared 5.93 metres to win silver at the Diamond League meet at London's Olympic Stadium on Saturday.
This was posted at 11:04 AM today (presumably CDT time), so the PV event must have finished just a couple hours ago! RG, you're apparently wide awake!
