USA 4 X 100 relay
hey

just watched the 4 x 100's from Monaco...

what a joke... USA track and field has NO clue on how to put together the relay...

Only country/coaches/system that can take 16 of the best athletes in the world and screw them up..the system needs to step aside.. send the runners to the track by themselves and then it will be done correct.

i have to admit i "presented", along with Dr. Bert Lyle, North Texas... at the 2001 USATF High Performance Relay Conference.........

BUTT (there is that butt that keeps getting in the way) They, meaning the coaches that wanted to be in charge...., (Not Brooks by the way... he tried to get them to listen) they, who already knew more about the "mechanics" than presenters, only "had time" for half the science.. and changed one of the parameters...

that "parameter" is what is "confusing" the athletes natural feel and screwing then up and killing their confidence.. uncertainty = chaos = blame in the wrong place = poor performance by 16 great athletes and human beings that deserve better....

Two issues.. one the "wrong" process of where and how the hand should be placed to receive the baton....

Two... no idea of the correct way to get/establish the correct "GO" mark..
Check http://www.oneapproachrun.com go to charts.. then 40m speed Bolt..
The chart gives your stride data for "speed/acceleration" steps for 20 meters is important to the relay process.. down below the chart is "numbers" for world-class men and women.

What is import here is 12 steps from a start (out going) for 20 meters for world-class men.. and a 2.85 second? average time. And for men.. 30 meter "flying" (incoming runner) average 2.7seconds.

For women 12 steps in 19 meters.. average time of 3.1seconds from a start (out going).
30 meters "flying" (incoming runner) average for world-class women 2.95 seconds

You don't coach "by the numbers" but you use the numbers to know where and how things will and should go.

In basketball you coach to the "numbers' of a jump shot but in the game you turn your shoot loose.

PS... let me add to my post...

they are "coaching" things that should NOT be coached... and not using the "natural" abilities of the athlete to make it simple and work with the correct speed and "feel" of the runners..

when set up properly it will "happen" correctly... there may be a little deviations occasionally but they will be minor... "correct" happens 90% of the time and world records will be easy to set.
