hey everybody, i was thinking about doing the decathlon next year. i was wondering if any other pole vaulters in here made the switch? im not really super good at any events, but im decent at most of them. im only 5'8 135-140 lbs, i know i have a big disadvantage, but could i still do good? and ive been looking for an online decathalon scoring table for the NJCAA, i cant find one, does anyone know where there is one?

I did a pent the other day. I was leading after 4 events, then I ran a 5:53 1500 and wound up in 3rd. Hahaha that was just pathetic.

They use the IAAF scoring tables. You can download them from IAAF.org

got it, thanks becca. i just did an estimate and right now, with no training, i could probably get around 4300-4500, is that worth it, should i try it? im in a pretty easy division.

Heck ya you should do it. Decathlon is so much fun and it tests your body and mind. I can't wait to do it again this year.

I started out in Pole Vault, then I went on to decathalon. I personally found the transition easy, except for the 1500. I'm 6'4" tall and 180 pounds, so I'm not a big guy, but I guess to do pole vault you have to have the power muscles, so that really helped when it came to shot and disc, and of course the sprinting... But I had also been training for hurdles for 2 years before the transition, so I would think that the hurdles would be the hard part if you have never done them before. Plus it would depend on the hurdles you run, if you're in high school, because they're different, right? there's the 100 for little kiddies, then 110 for seniors... at least that's how I remember it.

im training for the decathlon now, can't wait to compete in it.

seems like it should be a lot of fun, thats why im doing it. i think you should do it too if you are considering it. :yes:

And when you score in a meet, you cant possibly go all the events in one day, how do they divide it up???

They do separate decathlon competitions. You can google it to see which events are on which day.
