Jeff gave a very inspirational speech, and I think he made his points very well ...

If you love pole vaulting (and most of us do), then follow your .

It's not the championships or the glory ... it's the JOURNEY!

From a slow start ... 9-6 as a HS freshman; 14-6 as a HS Sr.; 17-8 as a college Sr.; thought 1992 was his best Olympic chance; 12th in 1996 Olympics ...

Each year, he got better ...

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Hartwig

Code: Select all

Year Event World ranking US ranking
1995 Pole vault - 9th
1996 Pole vault - 4th
1997 Pole vault - 5th
1998 Pole vault 2nd 1st
1999 Pole vault 2nd 1st
2000 Pole vault 3rd 2nd
2001 Pole vault 2nd 1st
2002 Pole vault 1st 1st

Then 6 years later - at 40 years old - he surprises everyone (maybe even himself) and makes the Olympic team for the second time!

Your heart replenishes your body and brain. It allows your brain to dream. Dream big. Follow your  .

What a journey he's had!
