Major costs with Reno...

Plane ticket
How much the airline charges to fly poles (if you are taking any)
Hotel room
Summit Registration fee
FOOD - all the places at the Hilton are somewhat expensive. There are a lot of choices, but I would recommend budgeting more than you think you need for food.

You should also allow for...
$$ for t-shirts, DVDs, books, and other cool things that might be for sale.
$$ for bowling, or whatever games they have in the game room.

You don't have to worry about...
Renting a car. They have a shuttle to the hotel, and they do a pole shuttle to and from the airport (assuming you arrive Thursday and leave Sunday).

I am sure I forgot some, so feel free to add any you think of!

If you run out of things to do at the Hilton, renting a car is not that bad. Last year, I rented a car and got out of Reno to see the countryside and was very glad I did. We drove thru the capital and then went through the mountains to Lake Tahoe. Beautiful scenery-mountains and snow-we even stopped at a public area and threw a few snow balls around. The car was economy type that cost me less than $25. If you've been to
Reno a few times and don't get into gambling much, I highly recomend it.

One of the best and cheapest ways to eat at the Hilton if you are in high school is to bring to boxes of pop-tarts and granola bars! And if you are in college do the same and pocket the per diem.

p.s. something else to see in Reno if it is not to cold is their somewhat new white-water course, I kayaked it, when it was new, at the summit two years ago and it is awesome!

Usually the last compeition gets done between 10 and midnight. There's always a pit that gets way behind.
