Shorter 145 or longer 135?

Unread postby Split » Fri May 23, 2008 10:40 pm

Well, this summer I'm going to be vaulting with a friend of mine who is going to college next year. We're going to move me up a pole in the progression. Last season I was using a 12 foot 130lb pole. Held at the very top. Right now I'm at a 13 ft, 130 pole. The next pole would be either a 13 ft, 145 pole, or a 13'6", 135 pole. Which would be a better transition?

what heights are you jumping, that is of vital information. If you are not vaulting above your hand grip and your standards aren't all the way back then you don't need another pole, if they are all the way back then go with the heavier pole. If you are vaulting above your hand grip and you need more length then go with the longer pole.
What is nice about this sport is that I am responsible for most everything.

Search for the "pole progression chart", understand it, then make a decision.

I can't find my dang pole progression chart :( somebody stole my bag at a meet, so now I"m post here...

I haven't competed in a year and a half, but still jump a little bit at practice with the vaulters I coach. I've been going on a 1350 from 4lefts and it's been relatively soft for me, and I'm landing pretty deep (standards at about 24-25). I have a 1435 in the bag as well... If I kept the same consistent takeoff and speed, but moved back to 5L, should that make it easier for me to get on the 1435?

Thanks Becca :)

PowerPlant... I've been on a 13'150 from 4 lefts, next pole I have right now is 14'135, so I'm just going to match up my grip on the 14' and move up if I'm getting the necessary penetration.
