not sure whats going on

Unread postby trayoates » Mon May 09, 2011 6:03 pm

im a 16 year old jumper, its my second year and ive jumped 12'6" on a 14' 180 pacer fx. i've gotten to the point where i need to start inverting and letting the pole throw me over the bar.
my problems right now are:
weak drive knee (almost drop both legs kinda like steven hooker)
bad trail leg
blocking the plant instead of breaking down and pressing
not waiting long enough and bailing out early
sort of scrunch up into a ball to attempt to get upside down

i have good speed and good strength, i just cant seem to convert that to swing upside down into an inverted position. im currently running from a 6 step of 75 feet. any help is appreciated!!

Well you just listed all of your problems.. why are you asking for help here? get on a small pole from a small run and start fixing your problems one at a time.

It's hard to give advice without seeing video. My guess is you're gripping too high. Lower your grip and focus on getting both of your hands UP at takeoff instead of pressing forward.

Get a pole that there is no chance of you bending and just stiff pole. If you try to block out than you're going to run into some problems to say the least! When you say you're not waiting long enough you mean not finishing your takeoff right, because there's not supposed to be any passive phases of the vault. If you have a rope than do your vault on the rope and if you don't finish your takeoff and try to invert than you're going to have to pull which is wrong and you'll feel it! You can fix that by just teaching yourself to finish the takeoff and eventually the swing will just come with it which will also fix your "scrunching into a ball" problem. Hope this helps!
