Is there an equation?

This is a forum to discuss advanced pole vaulting techniques. If you are in high school you should probably not be posting or replying to topics here, but do read and learn.

yeah, I jumped 5.25 at the summer Ohio Games (same thing as the sunflower games) when I was an undergrad... and that 5.10 is wrong.. .I jumped 5.15m back in 1999. I think it was in Michigan, but I'm not sure.

Coach Attig said he never heard of you jumping such height and said your PR was at the 2000 KU relays at 5.10. In fact he said you had a mental barrier at 17' and that you would never turn up for it.

Tests

Unread postby baggettpv » Tue Dec 17, 2002 1:44 am

There is a series of tests being done to determine the needs of pole vaulters. What the tests show is:
The faster the higher
The stronger the higher
The more dynamic the higher
The more efficient the higher
The bigger the pole the higher
The Higher grip the higher

I presented a testing matrix at the Summit in 95 that gave a holistic outlook on the event that could help coaches determine the training needs of the athletes participating in the PV event. These tests can be used for many purposes but I use them to determine just training needs. They came to me from Andjei with his blessing. Maybe someday someone will listen to him....When I did it changed my whole idea of what the PV is.

Technique

Unread postby baggettpv » Tue Dec 17, 2002 1:59 am

Technique is measure by:
Pole size
Grip heigth
Over grip Clearance

Examples:
12'6 1/4" girl - top 5 in the nation at one time
30 lbs over weight
2 x heighth (5'6") + 18"
8" over grip

weakness = over grip clearance. Her training was to improve this aspect of her jumping, training tried to develop a 12" - 18" over grip clearance. Which by the way would have put her at 12'10" - 13'4".

Thats the way we look at it.

hello

check my 6 stride chart... mid chart

this gives you the combined data for the last 30 years...

speed is represented by stride length and frequency.. ie.. mid mark..

each mid mark has a "grip" to match the amount of force created.. if the vaulter is running properly..

if a vaulter can hit the mid and grip (running correctly) but isn't jumping as high it is technical or the wrong pole size (to stiff)

hey AZ the chart is the formula..
