Today's meet vs Granada/SRV.

Opened in at 11'6". I was not penetrating with the 14' 160 pole so I had to move down to a 14' 155 pole today and try to work with it. Throughout the whole meet I had standards from 70cm to 80 cm(all the way back)

I only got a clearance of 12'6" and videos will be posted soon.

Meet from last week. I only managed to get 12'6", I was really hoping to PR again this meet. for some reason, on some days I can get on the 14' 160 UCS pole gripping about 6 inches down but this day I just kept on getting no penetration so I had to use a 14' 155 UCS pole gripping 6 inches down and I blew through it with my standards all the way back on my last attempt at 13'. All jumps are from a 6 left approach from 74'10". I am planning on moving my approach back to a 7 left approach in order to try to get more pole speed and penetration with the 14' 160 pole. Thoughts on this?

13' (blow through): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gn84aa25 ... e=youtu.be

What should I work on this week? I have the West Coast Relays coming up this Saturday, and I have a vaulting day tomorrow and another one on Thursday before the meet. Again, I'm planning on moving my approach back to 7 lefts and try to get more speed on the 14' 160 pole.

Thanks.

Long run vaulting 3/29/12

Moved my step back to a 7 left approach for the first time.

Pole is a 14' 155 UCS gripping 68 inches from the top. Bungee at the first video is 14' and the second video is 14'6". This practice, I constantly through about "moving the pole to vertical". I was reading a article recently, and it kept on stressing the importance of jumping with the intention of moving the pole to vertical instead of jumping with the focus on bending the pole. I think this has helped me stay taller in my plant and during the take off.

Here are the videos from West Coast Relays on Saturday. There was a HUGE headwind and half the vaulters NH'd so I guess clearing almost a foot under my PR is bad, but not that bad :o

I used a 14' 155 pole gripping 8 inches down and from a 7 left approach. Standards were at 55 on the first jump and 75 on the last jump.

I am planning on moving back up to the 14' 160 pole for this Thursday's meet, and I can see that I still need to work on jumping UP and TALL at take off!!!

Mike Shimanski Invite 4/14/12

Opened at 11'6", here are videos of me clearing 13' on my last attempt, and 3 more attempts at 13' 6"

I started out the meet on a 14' 160 UCS holding 1 foot down, was blowing through with standards at 80 so moved to a 14' 165 Skypole holding 1 foot down. Standards for the 13' jumps were at 72cm, standards at 13'6" were at 72cm also.

13'6" (third): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSEt5Onw ... ature=plcp

The 14' 165 was a pole I had to borrow from the other school. I was actually landing deep with this pole, and was going to move up to the 14' 170 if I had cleared 13'6". At my school, I have a 14'6" 165. Should I make the jump to the 14'6" 165 now, since I'm landing so deeply?

Wait until you have another practice or meet where you are blowing through the 14'165 again. Don't move up just for the sake of moving up :)

What should I do if I don't have the 14' 165. My school only has (in my pole range), 14' (150, 155, 160), 14'7" (165), 15' (150, 155). What should I practice on during practice and meets where the other schools do not have the 14' 165?

The 14'7 165 is going to feel roughly 15 pounds stiffer than the 14'160. That's a pretty big jump in poles, but not impossible if you're really crushing the 14'160. I would practice with the 14'160 and if you start blowing through it, take some jumps on the 14'7 165 without swinging. Only raise your grip a few inches, don't just grip the top of the pole. Once you're consistently getting into the pit OK, you could try swinging. But don't force it if you're having an off day and not blowing through the 14'160.

The 15'150 might feel softer than the 14'7 165, it's really hard to say. You'd be gripping down on it, and once you're gripping more than about 18" from the top, you start to get into the sailpiece and it can be hard to time up the swing. You could try both without swinging and see if one feels better than the other.

Thanks for the help! I'll definitely wait until I'm crushing the 160 pole before trying to move up

4/19/12

Started out with 4 lefts and felt really good here's a jump with a 13'7" 150 holding a foot and a half from the top with the bungee at 12' 6"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F66wrK39acI

So I moved back to my full run (7L) with a smaller pole than my actual competition pole. In competition I use a 14' 160 and 14' 165 but I used at 14' 155 in these videos. I am holding a foot down. and Bungees are at approximately 15'

4/23/12

Practice today consisted of 4 left vaults and last time i used a 13'7 150, but today I moved up to a 14' 150 pole holding at 12'6" from 4 lefts. The bungee is at 13' and on the last jump it looks like I would've cleared it!! I focused mostly on getting my plant high, jumping up hard, and getting vertical. What do you think of today's jumps??

First time going back to a full 7 lefts run in 3 weeks.

Pole:
14'160 holding at 12'11"

Bungee:
14' to 14'6"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtOFxdiM ... ature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDyR2MZ_ ... ature=plcp

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBoRrUz5 ... ature=plcp

Goal of this practice was to get a consistent and fast run, jumping on and planting high.. did not worry too much about the off ground work but I can see that I need to fully invert more and drop my shoulders way wayyyy back.
