1980 Olympics Vid

Unread postby chasing6 » Mon Mar 23, 2009 5:28 am

Found this video browsing YouTube tonight and though some of you might be interested in taking a trip down memory lane. There are some interesting techniques shown, namely Kozakiewicz's "frog leg" style (for lack of a better term). I especially enjoyed the commentator's description of Volkov's miss. "Volkov would analyze these sequences many times over, and of course, he would find those slight mistakes which sadden him so much." Good stuff.

Here's a closer look at Kozakievicz's technique. Seems to me it's just a slight variation on the tuck you see in some vaulters' technique, but instead of tucking the swing leg between the hands, he puts it outside. Thoughts?

Where were the American vaulters? Oh, yeah, politics got in the way.
