Desire to Be the Best at Helping Others

by: Aleksandra Wojtalewicz

As a student at Lakewood High School, Jim Knaub could have been found at the track, his athletic build carrying him down the runway of the pole vault pit and into the air. The California High School Champion earned a scholarship to CSULB to major in Physical Education in 1976 where he continued his pole vaulting career and became the Pacific Coast Athletic Association Champion and a finalist at the United States Olympic Trials with a career best of 17’7.â€Â

Jim and I graduated high school at the same time. He beat Mike Tully to win the '74 California State Meet. I tied for tenth after being seeded 24 out of 25 and pr'ing in prelims.

One thing omitted from the article is that Jim broke the Community College national record while at El Camino College training under Dick Tomlinson.

It's good to see that he is still alive and doing well by doing good.
