My son was watching some PBS show On Demand, and they had a preview for Brother Bear 2 that shows some eskimo chick running with a staff, then vaulting, which got me to thinking about other movies I have seen with vaulting in it.

That's being said, here's you're assignment:

List any movie you've ever seen that has pole vaulting (of any kind) in it, and include a description of the scene.

I'll start us off:

Brother Bear 2 - the eskimo girl runs and jumps witha stick
Naked Gun (?) - they are inside a prison, talking about the new sports programs, and a guy in the background vaults over the prison walls.
King Kong - the native dudes vault from rock to rock with huge poles
The Mummy Returns - one of the little pygmy guys vaults witha staff in the jungle

what else?

Tomb Raider 2 - only saw the preview

Tremors - vaulting from rock outcrop to rock outcrop

The World's Greatest Athlete - Indoors he vaults through the skylight

Grease 2 - in the background while at the track

Hogan's Heroes - Klink tries to vault a wall

If you don't know this one then you're too young.

Jeff Speakman is "The Perfect Weapon", nice gratuitious pole vault scene followed by a nice karate scene.

Can I get a shout out to anyone who's seen it!

I know two!
Ice Age 2: the little squirrel uses a stick to get from one rock to another, he doesn't make it
Pirates of the Caribbean 2-Deadman's Chest: Johnny Depp uses a stick to jump from one side of the cliff to the other right after he gets free from the natives who are about to sacrifice him

On an episode of The Simpons, Homer drives through a camp of athletes, and you can see a pole vaulter moving out of the way of Homer's car.

On another, yet infamous, episode of South Park -- the special olympics episode -- Cartman tries to pole vault but ends up breaking the pole (pretty funny) :D

Then there is another one with Spongebob Squarepants, yes I watch it! Spongebob and Patrick are in competition for the Fry Cook Olympics, and one of the first events is the pole vault.

I want to comment on the Naked Gun (?) prison scene at the very first of the movie. The vaulter is UCLA's/No Limits Sports, Anthony Curran and he told me the story after he shot it. He said that he was trying to get a feel for the jump by taking a series of little jumps and progressing up the wall until he was standing on the top. He said the wall was about 12’. Apparently the stunt coordinator was getting nervous that AC couldn’t pull it off and said, “if you can’t get it done like this, how are you going to get over the razor wire when we put it up on top of the wall?â€Â

There was a poster in the new movie Land of the Lost related with a picture of a vaulter on it. It said Risk- If you don't make it, it's your own damn "vault"

Image

Later on in the movie, Will Ferrell actually pole vaults (poorly)

These are the best images I could find.

Old tv show called 21 jump streets where cops go under cover to solve crimes in schools. This episdoe has dealing with racism and violence on the track team and there are a few scenes of pole vaulters

Also the old brad pit movie across the tracks. Its focused on the 800m but has some PV
