I aquired a pole, and older pacer that has no flex marking on it....somewhere I read on how to measure the flex with a 50 pound weight... where to you put the weight and where do you set the pole from the tip to the grip??

Honestly, the specifics are not that important because you are not going to hit a manufacturers flex number.
Where it is useful is comparing it to other poles you have to see what the relative stiffness is.
If you go 6" from the bottom, 18" from the top, and hang a weight at the midpoint between those two points, you'll be in good shape.
If you are comparing two poles that are different lengths, make sure you pick common measuring points for both. If you had a 13'6 and 14' pole, you might go 18" from the top of the 14' pole and 12" from the top of the 13'6".
