Mecham in Finland

Unread postby Mecham » Mon Mar 17, 2008 10:42 am

Okay. Most of you probably dont remember me. But, anyway. Right now I am in Finland. I will be in Finland for the next two years. I was thinking to myself the other day: "Ya know, there are probably going to be a few meets in Finland this summer and next summer, It would be so awesome if I could help out with those meets while I am here!"

So thats why I am writing this. I am in the Helsinki area and if anyone knows of any meets here in Finland, I will be so happy to help, whether it is with pole vaulting or not, i can do anything. If you need me to translate english-finish-english or put up bars, anything. I can help out. please let me know if I can do anything!

Dude! Of course I remember you. BTW - World Masters are in Lahti next year. My training partner and I are coming over. Let me know what you can find out about the facilities. I know we're coming through Helsinki so let's plan to grab lunch or something. Maybe even get in a vault session. Bubba

That's nice to hear that you're here in Finland. I train at Liikuntamylly, which is in Helsinki. The sports complex there is pretty sweet. It has olympic style gymnastics facility, 200m indoor track w/ 6 lanes, 80m straight w/ 8 lanes, two weight rooms, basketball and badminton courts, climbing wall etc..
2 pole vault pits are on the infield at all times. You should definately come check it out sometime. There are some good meets in Finland this summer.

Lahti - July, 28 - August, 08 of 2009.

Alan my mother LOVED the book and your thoughtful inscription. She was definitely the den mother for all vaulters as we grew up and she's fascinated with the free take off concept. It made her hospital days go much faster. THANKS so much!! Bubba

Mecham - Outdoor National Masters are in Spokane this summer. What can you tell us about that place to jump? Thanks! Bubba

I am tentatively planning on being there! If I go, I could probably even rent out my poles to interested old folks :P

Lapinlahti

Unread postby UWvaulter » Fri Mar 21, 2008 6:28 pm

Lapinlahti is a really fun meet! Last summer Jarno and I had pretty good wind and the surface is mondo. The drive is really beautiful from Helsinki. The meet director took very good care of the athletes too. The only bad thing is that it was about 65 degrees up there during mid summer.

I will be here for the masters meet too. And Yeah, I am on my mission. I heard that the missionaries help out a lot with the track meets, and I might even be given special permission to go to Lahti if someone requests it ;) . I would love to have lunch with you guys if you come up here. Just please let me know. I am only on the computer once or twice a week, so the best way to contact me is through eldermecham@gmail.com.

It would be so awesome to help you guys out. Best of luck to everyone

oh and p.s. the masters meet in Spokane, the facility is pretty good. Its been a year or so since I've jumped there, but the pit is rather new, so its nice! Good Luck and keep me posted! Thanks for your quick replies!
