Flex Ratings UCS and Pacer Carbon

Unread postby wurster490 » Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:48 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows what the difference in flexes are for a 5m Carbon versus a 5m UCS. I know that the Carbons are stiffer than the UCS poles of the same flex number, but does anyone know by how much??

Thanks

From everything I hear, they are nearly identical in that length. A carbon with the same flex number isn't stiffer per se, it just reacts differently.

thanks for the info Becca, I know the Carbons are stiffer at the takeoff just wasn't sure if there was a difference in the flexes. My teammate went from a 5.10m 14.1flex UCS to a 5m 13.4flex carbon and said it was much stiffer. I was told that a 14.1 5.10m would be a 13.6 5m in UCS flexes which should make them relatively similar. Only 0.2 difference, but on the UCS he blew through and on the Carbon he was actually able to clear heights on it, but with full depth.

I guess there are no comparison charts or anything out there?

I thought UCS flexed their 5.10 and 5.20 poles on the same spans as 5 meter poles, and at those stiffnesses, going from a 14.1 to a 13.4 is a big jump!

Ya, they do flex them on the same scale, but they're like .5 stiffer because you will most likely grip where you were gripping on the 5m pole. So he gripped like 4.90 on the 5m he would have to grip 5m on the 5.10 for it to be the exact same flex.
