In Isi's 2nd miss at 5.05, she didn't have her typical smooth "continuous chain" motion during her swing/extension. She tucked her legs a slight bit, then extended them. I wouldn't call that a tuck/shoot, but it wasn't quite a continuous swing/extension motion either.

I would guess that the root cause of her inferior technique on her 2nd 5.05 attempt (and probably her other misses too) were due to something in the lower part of her vault. She has a nice, smooth plant/takeoff, but I'm not particularly impressed at how fast she swings her trail leg thru. To me, it looks a little slower than it should be. She's not adding much to the pole.

In her WR clearance on 3rd attempt, she was back to a very nice continuous motion, with no visible hint of a tuck/shoot.

Most of the vids were head-on shots - not from the side. So it's hard to see exactly how much of a free takeoff she was getting. A side shot would have helped. All of her jumps certainly looked like free takeoffs.

Thanks for the coverage Becca.

I know that some were watching the Danish feed that Bruce provided. I couldn't get it, so I went to the one that was pointed out the other day by someone else.....http://www.dabahamianting.com/ Then make your way to internet TV, and connect to ZNS TV. They have continuous live coverage. My connection apparently wasn't fast enough to keep up all the time; it was buffering quite often, and I had audio only. I am on DSL, but a regular cable connection will probably be fine. There was a pretty good bit of vault coverage. Volleyball is on now, and of course the picture is perfect! LOL

Hopefully it will be useful for Men's Prelims, and Finals.

It was real thriller.

Celebrating her win Isinbayeva said to camera:"Happy birthday, mama. I truly love you, Artyom." "Artyom" is definitely the name of her boyfriend. She repeat love words giving flash-interview to our TV.

I think today was a good example of why Isinbayeva is such an unbeatable champion. She wasn't jumping very well today, but she pulled it out to have clearances when it counted. Even her world record jump was not anywhere near her best, but she did what she needed to do when she needed to do it.

USATF Quotes:

Women's pole vault final

Jennifer Stuczynski (Churchville, N.Y.): "I couldn't ask for anything
more than to come to my first Olympics and get a medal, a silver no
less. It's beyond words to have people in there cheering for you. I made
a lot of jumps and I'm feeling it right now.

On why she had four attempts at 4.90m: "They made me jump two minutes,
two minutes, two minutes. You're supposed to get three minutes.

April Steiner Bennett (Springdale, Ark.): "I was jumping great. I had
first attempt makes up until my PR. So we went to a pole I haven't been
on except for a little bit in practice. ... I walked out of the tunnel
and onto the track and I started to cry. It was just so overwhelming.

I am still disappointed in this situation. Fabiana looked incredible in the jump I saw, she should have been a contender!

Lost pole holds up pole vault final

BEIJING (Reuters) - The women's Olympic pole vault final was held up on Monday when Brazilian Fabiana Murer could not find the pole she wanted to jump with.

Murer said she was forced to use a pole that was too long as she failed in her three attempts to clear 4.65 meters, after she was unable to find the right pole among those she had brought to the stadium.

"It wasn't possible. I had to have that one pole. It wasn't on the track and I don't know where it was," she said.

The 27-year-old Murer said she intended to protest to Beijing organizers.

At one point during the dispute Murer stood on the runway blocking the path of China's Gao Shuying, who was preparing to jump.

Murer rummaged through the poles and talked with officials and her coach for 10-15 minutes before competition restarted.

The competition was won by Russia's Yelena Isinbayeva with a world record leap of 5.05 meters.

At 8:45 this evening NBC started covering the wPV with a real nice piece on Isi. I wish I'd known in advance. I would've recorded it. But any of you folks getting the NBC signal even further delayed, you probably want to make a point of watching. :rose:

I watched it too. I'm extremely pissed at NBC. They showed the video of Isi and 2 vaults (of Steiner and Stuczynski) before switching to women's discus and then beach volleyball. They did not show the world record! Ridiculous garbage
