NCAA mHeptathlon - ASHTON EATON WORLD RECORD

Unread postby rainbowgirl28 » Sat Mar 13, 2010 4:30 pm

Ashton Eaton of Oregon is having an amazing heptathlon competition. He is currently pole vaulting, just made 5.10. The higher he can vault, the less fast he has to run the 1000 to break the world record. With a vault of 5.10, he needs to run 2:34.58 to set the world record, if he vaults 5.20, he needs to run 2:37.31. He is pretty much guaranteed to smash his own collegiate record at this point. It looks like he jumped 5.10 and ran 2:32 in the 1000 for a total of 6,499 on the NCAA website! What is the American/World Record?

Congratulations to Ashton on one of the most impressive performances in the history of the sport!
Nice job representing U of O and your hometown of Bend! You are inspiration to the young track & field athletes (and coaches) here in a huge way.

Good start for UO's new multi-event coach...to say the least! They have another potential great one coming down the pipeline, as Sweet Home, OR, HS senior Dakotah Keys has signed for the Ducks. He is a nice, humble kid. Check out his amazing multi-event stats from his junior year: http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/A ... ?AID=93094

Go Ducks, too bad the Beavers don't have a track team anymore (although I heard they may be starting a new program?)

Stop.... thats sick. It feels like he's a foot off the ground when the pole hits the back of the box lol. 14' take off, probably a 15'6-16' grip or so. Thats nnasstty...

Free-est takeoff I've ever seen!

I haven't downloaded this vid or studied it frame by frame (yet) ... but just by pausing right after the takeoff, he's INCREDIBLE! Too bad he's a multi-event guy ... Ashton could go 5.80+ np with that speed and spring! (Going by his sprints and hurdles times, and HJ and LJ PBs here - http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=675996.)

isn't it though, but there are similar stories in my head, maybe not with as much raw ability as ashton, but The Outdoor World Champion in the Decathalon, a name many should be familiar with, Trey Hardee, could also be a great vaulter with his size and speed and poor take off. Trey could be a 5.80 plus guy as well. Maybe this should bring attention to the training us vaulters do, and as Tenn has done before with Lojo. Obviously multi eventers do not have as much time to train specifics in the vault as just vaulters, but maybe we should take more time out and train a little for the multi, because the way i see, their bodies can handle much more, and they bring other strengths into the vault that many vaulters could benefit from. Take Daniel Ryland for example, a multi turned vaulter, and i hear that his naturally strengths from training in the multi gave him a huge advantage when converting to the vault.

All just ideas welcome for discussion, and maybe ill make another topic if this catches, sorry becca ;)

According to my french roommate, he actually just did the multi for fun, much like other 6 meter vaulters, Jean Galfione, Tim Lobinger, and Tim Bright
