Re: 2011 San Marcos River Vault

Unread postby lonestar » Tue Jun 07, 2011 5:27 pm

Adding up the total starters in each division shows we had a total of 179 vaulters compete. Over 190 registered, however there were a number of scratches and no-shows. A sound assumption is that every vaulter is accompanied by at least 2 people (parents/family/friends), some more, some less, but 179 x 3 = approximately 537 total people... by far the biggest turnout we've had yet!

I want to extend a sincere thank you to:
    All the vaulters who participated
All the parents/family/friends who braved the heat to come and support the vaulters
All the volunteers (far too many to list!) who helped set up, tear down, set the bar/standards, cooked, sold concessions, helped with registration and t-shirts, helped with music and announcements, loaned us coolers/tents/tables/chairs/trailers/tools, helped paint the runways, repair the runways, repair the standards, level the runways, feed and water the workers, etc...

Despite the phenomenal turnout, as the meet promoter, I was very dissatisfied with how disorganized I let the flights and registration process become. I take full responsibility for that and for getting 3.5 hours behind schedule and having to cancel the Last Chance flights. I am very thankful that our terrific group of volunteers helped to pull it together despite those flaws and want to let everyone know that next year will be much more efficient. There is already a plan in place to remedy those mistakes and we are looking at making this a 2-day event, beginning on Friday afternoon, June 8th, 2012 with Masters and Novice divisions, and resuming on Saturday morning June 9th, 2012 with all other divisions. Maximum 25 vaulters per flight.

Thanks again to everyone who supported us and hope to see you next year!

Kris you do a helluva job with that event. Sorry to miss it this year. You have my promise to be there next year. Thanks for being brave enough to put this on and smart enough to get it done.
