6 LEFT PRACTICE(with better angle + quality)

Unread postby straightup » Mon May 13, 2013 10:23 pm

hey me again. i tried to get a better camera and angle in so it would help you see what i need to fix. to me it felt the 14-6 165 pacer i was gripping at 13-6 was too soft. it looks as if im bailing off the top of my vault to early and outward. but you guys always know best so check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ri4idIwK ... e=youtu.be

In the first couple jumps on this video, your plant comes up late. This is keeping you from being able to rotate the pole all the way over because of the tension in your arms. That's why you're getting away from the pole at the top. Notice on the later jumps you plant a little earlier and you rotate the pole over a little further.

Go back and spend some time doing your walking plant drills to really nail down your plant motion. Focus on full extension at the plant, pushing the pole with the whole body, and stay extended - with the whole body - throughout the vault. Push! Don't Pull!

Maybe you ripped it open from highbar work?

What kind of grip adhesive are you using? Chalk? Some sort of sticky substance? Just wondering, because if you're using something that's too sticky, it could rip your hand open (and maybe it did?).

With a tall, smooth plant, all you really need is chalk - to keep your hand perfectly dry.

I'm not saying switch from a sticky substance to chalk immediately (cuz your plant needs to be improved first). I'm just saying that you will know when you have a tall, smooth plant when you find that you can easily hold onto the pole with just chalk.

Just an idea. Lots of elite vaulters use various sticky substances too, so I'm also not saying you MUST use chalk. Just saying that you need to improve the smoothness of your plant.

yeah it may most likely be because of my crappy late plant and from gymnastics twice a week. its been ripping and bleeding alot. i do use chalk alot when i vault.i just try to wrap it and keep it clean after and let it heal for a few days before i repeat the process again.
