Samsu in Texas

Unread postby roger/over » Sun Jul 18, 2004 3:58 pm

From two sources, I read about Roslinda Samsu clearing 4.05 meters at a meet in Texas, probably Austin, the last week of June. I haven't been able to verify the location or exact date, or learn of her placing. It would be a new national record for Malaysia. Can anyone help?

could it be? one of the top pole vault statisticians in the world has become a member of pole vault power. i know Becca usually welcomes notable posters, but i would like to say welcome. i have read some of the lists you have compiled and submitted to Gus's newsletter in the past and have been very impressed.

Hey Roger! Glad to see you online. :D Wish I could help you with the Texas meet, but alas I am east coast and only hear about TX meets from others. Thanks for all the great stuff you do on an international level.

She got a sponsor!

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- A leading manufacturer of sports apparel and footwear, adidas, has taken nine track and field athletes under its wings to help them excel in their selected events.

Under the partnership, adidas will equip them with the latest technologically advanced running gear, footwear and apparels designed specifically for their respective categories.

"The partnership between adidas and the athletes is in line with the company's global policy of sponsoring up and coming athletes who strive for the best," said adidas Malaysia Managing Director Darren Choy at a press conference here Wednesday.

The nine who will benefit from the pledge are five men and four women athletes.

Veteran long distance runner M. Ramakrishnan is in the men's list together with S. Ravindran (100m, 200m), R. Muniandy (10km and 21km), K. Baskaran (marathon), G. Supermaniam (long distance).

The women are national long and triple jump record holder Ngew Sin Mei, Roslinda Samsu (pole vault), Siti Fatima Mohamad (100m, 200m) and Moh Siew Wei (100m hurdles).

Ramakrishnan has been with adidas for the past 10 years while the others who have been receiving adidas sponsorship are Baskaran (8 years), Siew Wei (4) Muniandy and Supermaniam (3). Sin Mei, Roslinda, Siti and Ravindran are first timers.

Choy said apart from the sponsorship which is on a yearly basis, the athletes would also receive incentives if they excelled in their respective events.

"I am sure the athletes will set personal goals for themselves and as sponsors we too have a goal -- to see the athletes perform at the highest level," he said.
