It takes years and years of development to be able to reach 5.50+. It is probably too late for you to reach that level, but if you enjoy the sport you should certainly pursue it and see how high you can reach.

thanks for ur answer, i love it and i think am gonna do it, what is sad is that i had a friend that started with me in the same time now after 4 years he jumps now 5m, 45, without this injury i would be on that level now too

if i can jump 5m 45 in about 4 years thats would be great (my friend will be competing in olympics for gold by this time lol)
thanks and i would love to hear other point of views about starting pole vaulting in my age

I don't think age is a large factor if you have a good background in sprinting and jumping. I know of several guys who began at 20-21 and ended up over 5.60m, but they were excellent hurdlers and long jumpers first.

thats exactly right, if you want to try it then go for it. You still have a few years before you will start becoming slower. At least, most people dont start becoming slower until late 20s. Get with a good coach, and stay dedicated. I could see someone with sprinting and long jump background getting up past 5.00m in 2 or 3 years if they work very, very hard. Past that, it gets hard to say, because people who do it their wholes lives sometimes dont go that high.

thanks for encouraging me really i appriciate that :), wow dont tell me am not gonna jump over 5m 00 lol, i'll train like a crazy to reach my friend level who now jump officially 5m 45, in 4 years of the hardest training in earth (the guy am talking about train 5 hours per day) well when we started pole jumping we was 5 friends all with sprinting background
now they are 4 after i was injured all of them jump more than 5 meters
i'll be very happy to come back if the coach accept me(if he say no i'll understand) the problem is that he is the only coach in my city and the best coach in my country.

im not saying that you cant, its just beyond what even the above average person can do in 4 years. But hey, i dont know whether you are the above average person, so it may be possible. Just make sure you arent getting ahead of yourself, because you might train for a year, get to 15 or 15'6, and feel you have lost the fun in vaulting. I just dont see how you can commit to vaulting 5.45 or higher before you are sure you will love it with all your heart. And as for 5 hours per day... you dont want to overtrain, but that type of commitment is what you are lookin for. Good luck, i will be pullin for ya!
P.S. Id like to reach the 5.45 mark in a few years too, so i know where you are coming from, good luck and vault high!

why i am saying that i want to reach 5.5 in 4 years is because 4 years ago when the five of us started paul volting i was the faster and the stronger in the group and i really wanted to fly lol ( but infortunatly after 3 months my arm was broken in training and took almost 2 years before it was 100% recovred) so now i say to myself if my friend did 5.45 in 4 years i can do it too. am sure i'll still love it all my life if not why i would want to comeback after 4 years?:) thanks again everybody for encouraging me i'll let u know my news an improvements and special thanks to vault3rboy

le saut à la perche <--Actually, that's what pole vaulting is for funkymario.

The variations make sense by a literal translation: sauter = to jump (le saut being the noun version) and la perche = the pole.

This was probably the first thing that I looked up in my translation dictionary when I started in French 1. :P

hihi thanks pvpv07 for taking my defence lol, yes sauter = to jump in french thats why i make a lot of mistake even if know that its pole vaulting and not pole jumping lol, but if had to choose a name for this sport i'll not name it "pole vaulting" or "pole jumping" i'll name it "POLE FLYING" :D
peace :)
