OK I sent that stuff.

ALSO--another test that we do a lot up here is an overhead shot throw. (throwing it backwards over your head).

the goal for us here is about 14.00, I think one guy has thrown about 13.70 or so, but I've seen people of similar size throw closer to about 15.5m.... try it out, see what you find...

O'head shot is a great exercise for the development of total body power and coordination. Kosak -------z the 1980 Olympic Champion from Poland could do over 19 metres -but that was exceptional for a vaulter - a big man by the standards of that time in the vault. He preferred to train with the throwers than do gymnastics.

Victor Saneyev - three time Olympic champion plus one silver in the triple jump - used it all the time - both for training and as a field test. He found that there was a tight correlation between his performance in the o'head shot in his final training session before big meets and his performance in the TJ.

Glad to see someone is doing some training outside the fairly irrelevant stuff presently being discussed on many posts in this training section of PVP.  Much of it does not/will not transfer to vault performance
but I admit you will look good at the beach. :D

Yeah 19meters is a bit rediculous. We like to do all sorts of field test data like that. Over the summer, we were doing as many as two a week, and just switching them up, now with actually vaulting starting, time is a little more limited, but we will begin to do it again soon...

It's something different that the athletes can work towards, other than just jumping a certain bar--sometimes its nice to switch gears..

Jumping...

Unread postby baggettpv » Thu Nov 09, 2006 1:26 am

My take, if you want to jump higher then go jump over things. Do it alot. Saturdays I have a special trainig session where the kids jump over things 960 times in an hour. They are getting better. We will see how much in 3 more weeks. I touched the rim for the first time when I did the workout.
