Great jump and I believe a PB for him. Though, it may be a facility. It's remains to be 2008. Same old year.

Ok... we were talking about this today at practice.
Can someone shed some light on whether or not anyone has ever jumped higher than this in December preceding the indoor season? I know most elites aren't even hitting full approach until around USA's indoors, or later for the people across the pond.
Is this a December world record?

He has his own youtube channel and the video is there. He's on 18 steps and makes 571 576 & 581 pretty cleanly. Attempts 1 at 5.84 & 2 at 5.86 and nearly makes all 3 attempts.

From Gerard Dumas:
Becca,
Since I am still an idiot I cannot get into the Pole vault power site.
They are discussing whether or not the 5.81m made by Lavillenie is the best registered mark for december.
It appears to me that it is correct.
Thierry Vigneron made 5.80m twice. On the same day, december 20th. in 1986 and 1987. That was made in Colombes, near Paris.
Naturally I could be wrong.
Gérard.

A few years ago in December, I think Burgess had a big mark at Perry Lakes ?

Re: Renaud LAVILLENIE 5,81
I posted it to the T&F News Message Board and got the following better marks:
5.90 Rodion Gataullin RUS Tashkent 24.12.1988
Paul Burgess vaulted 5.85m in Perth in December 2006
Billy Olson cleared 5.86m indoors in Saskatoon in December 1985.
Gataullin also has another high December vault to his name - an indoor 5.81m (also in Tashkent) in 1986.
