Re: Arms up and jumping but can't swing

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Busy summer. I still stand by earlier comments: 1. She's giving up on it too soon - she gets the shins to the hands, then shoots out to the bungies. She need to try to keep her legs and body close to the pole as she inverts and extends her body. 2. She co...

Re: Arms up and jumping but can't swing

Wow, really nice take-off! You've done a good job getting her to that point. It does look a little "blocky". It appears that her elbow of her bottom arm is out - which is good. If the elbow is not out (outside of the left shoulder), it is hard/impossible to drive the chest through. Which i...

Re: Pole progression and purchasing

Ok, HS poles, HS rules. The rules really stink because it is all about weight rating. But holding at 12' on a 12-140 and @ 12' on a 13-140 is a huge jump in relative stiffness and can prevent a vaulter from landing safely in the pit. And bumping up grip by more than 3" at at time is a really ba...

Re: Video Analysis of 16' 6" Miss

You are over-bending this pole, not blowing through it. With a blow through, you would have hit the bar on the way up. So I stand by my original advice, drop your grip 3-4 inches on this pole. It will give you greater penetration (the peak of your vault will move deeper into the pit - you will also ...

Re: Video Analysis of 16' 6" Miss

I will leave the technical analysis to others - but in my view you're technique is pretty good in this video. As for meet coaching let me say this: 1) Problem: you are over bending this pole on this jump, and you are not getting enough penetration. 2) Solution: Lower you grip - it will give you bett...

Re: College freshman need help ASAP!!!!!!!!

Yeah, probably mental. The brain does a pretty good job at self-preservation. I would suggest you try one-arm take off drills & 1-left take-off drills. Then go to 2-left take-offs, then try adding the swing to the 2-left take-offs. When you are confident with that, go to 3-lefts. Ease your way b...

Re: Takeoff-swing connection

Try this cue - swing your thigh to top hand. For right handed vaulters it right hand right thigh. Really you want both swing your thigh to your hand, and throw your top had to your thigh at the same time. Given your grip on this pole, you should also be thing to swing your feet to the top of the pol...
