Re: WIAA says not to offer advice to kids from other schools...

Re: How does your state do it????

In Indiana, unless its changed, there is one class for track. There are 32 Sectional meets (top 4 advance) that feed into 8 regional meets (top 3 advance). you are only allowed 2 entries to the sectional meet per school, unless an athlete meets what they call the "3 participant standard" (...

Re: Unprofessional coaching behaviour

I generally tell my kids what Becca said, "unless its a coach I tell you to listen to, just say thank you and ignore whatever they said." There have been a few instances where I have not been able to attend a meet where I've found the list of other schools attending and instructed my kids ...

RIP Max Richey

http://kokomotribune.com/obituaries/x552033690/Max-A-Richey If you live in the midwest, you'll probably know who Max is. Max owned/operated Richey Athletics and made some of the finest mats/standards I've ever seen. He was also our PV official at all out home meets at Purdue and officiated many NCAA...

Re: Automatic Standards - Do they ever work?

World Indoor Champs 2010: Hooker makes the bar before the equipment breaks. Lavillenie does not and is out. Olympics 2008: Hooker makes the bar before the equipment breaks. Brad Walker does not and is out. are you insinuating that Steve Hooker is sabotaging the standards to gain an advantage?

Re: 18' on a 15' Pole

According to my old vault coach at Purdue, Noel Ruebel, "Monte Weller jumped 18 goddamned feet holding 14 goddamn 8"

but this is all purely hearsay as I have no idea if it was a 15' pole or if its even true or not. :)

Re: What should future coaches take in college?

My advice would be to become a student of the vault and try to learn as much about our sport as you can. Talk to as many coaches and vaulters as humanly possible. Like Kirk said, watch and listen to other coaches and ask questions when you see or hear something you don't understand. Don't become one...
