Re: The location of the take off point in fiberglass pole vaulti

Next: An athlete with more speed will/can carry that speed after takeoff a little farther than a slower athlete, so I see, by "physics" a better chance for an athlete with speed to function with a farther out takeoff… but that depends on the grip to speed ratio. The first part of this is ...

Re: BBCode highlight feature

Ha. I have used the bolding and underlining as you mentioned. Was just being picky since the highlighting looks better. How did you get the current BBCode support for the forum? Did that come by default? No biggie. Figured I'd ask.

BBCode highlight feature

Hi Becca,

Could we get the BBCode [highlight] for the forum? I think it would be of great use for highlighting specific text in replies. I know I'd like to use it :). Here's an example of it:

Re: The location of the take off point in fiberglass pole vaulti

hye come on guys the "point of take-off" has never changed in the vault over time.. steel, bamboo, fiberglass.. all the same.. by "physics" the athlete should have an upward "impulse".. arms fully extended, just as the pole tip contacts the back of the box. By Petrov's...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

2. the vaulter should employ a pre jump or free take off. I take this to mean that the vaulter should take off so far back that he/she can leave the ground before the tip of the pole can contacts the back of the box. I have also had disagreements with altius on this point. he c laims a vaulter can ...

Re: Does the Russian model represent ideal technique?

The point here is that there is minimal ( if any ) empirical evidence supporting the 'free" take off concept and it's supposed superiority vs. other possible take off points. Empirical evidence in the pole vault, much less most human movement is almost impossible to achieve. Human biomechanics...

German Raphael Holzdeppe

I personally didn't know much about him until getting to watch all of his jumps at the Olympics. This guy is, by far, the BEST technical pro vaulter out there today. Unreal! Finally a pro using the Petrov/Bubka model nearly as close as Bubka. He's gonna blow way up in the coming years. Love watching...

Complete Olympic WPV Finals Video

NBC does it again! Send them great feedback so this becomes the "norm". Here is the the FULL Olympic WPV event final in 1080 HD. Damn I wish I could download the stream. They actually don't link to this replay feed on the NBC results page. I took a guess at the web address based on the qua...

NBC's live feed of the full event is amazing! Has there ever been full event coverage like this for the vault? Love it!
