Re: Vaulter Not Swinging Through and Dropping Shoulders

Do you have any video of her that includes the approach run and plant? The still images of her swing look reasonably good, but that's the unimportant part of any feedback we could provide. Given the first image in the series, where her left arm is already collapsed inside of the pole with her left h...

Re: 19 feet pro's/con's

In my opinion, Tully starts with the pole tip too low and therefore must carry it statically down the runway for the first few steps. I believe he loses some capacity to accelerate out of the back. By the time he hits the mid, though, the pole tip has not crossed too low and he is able to let it fal...

Re: beginner feedback

That's much better on the plant. Good work. Now raise your grip. Grip as high as you can from 6 steps and still move the pole smoothly to the back of the pit, but raise it gradually. That will help you resist the urge to pull, because you must stay extended in order to move the pole to the back of t...

Re: Advice on Plant

You are starting your plant more or less on time, but your hands move slowly when you plant, and your pole tip is too low before you initiate your plant motion. The result of these two issues is that you will tend to be unable to get the hands all the way before takeoff, and you will always decelera...

Re: Vaulter Not Swinging Through and Dropping Shoulders

The swing is stopping because she is pulling. She needs to get more comfortable keeping her hands and elbows over her head through the entire vault. When doing "pop-ups," don't focus to much on breaking the elbow to muscle to inversion, because this teaches the vaulter the wrong technique ...

Re: Vaulter "getting stuck", not finishing swing

I'll elaborate on Kirk's point about starting the swing correctly. Your vaulter cannot swing because the swing is broken from the very beginning. He plants with the bottom arm in close to his body, and pulls right off the ground in an effort to make the hips move. This stops the pole from rotating t...

The odd thing is that this is all written in hyperbolic sales copy, and I can't even tell what they're selling.

Re: Lavillenie vs Bubka

I think the most important difference involves the execution of the takeoff. The B/P model, as exemplified by S. Bubka, empasizes developing upward movement in the arms and legs as the vaulter takes off and delaying the bending of the pole until the vaulter is airbourne. Lavillenie, on the other ha...

Re: Quick question?

Every 6" is equal to about 10 pounds of pole stiffness, holding at the same grip. It a rough estimate though, as different length poles will move differently. For your example, going from a 13' 155 to a 14' 135, hold in the same place, maybe a couple fingers higher if you're moving the pole well.

Re: New PR

That's definitely a step up. Remember that 6 inches of pole equals about 10 pounds of stiffness, so that pole is 5 pounds heavier. Start on your smaller pole, and focus on keeping the hands and elbows up over your head. If you can land very deep in the pit, change poles and start raising your grip. ...

Re: New PR

bzuger, Take another look at you videos. When you plant, you should notice that your hands go up, and at the instant before you hit the box, the hands come forward and down - like you're trying to stab the box. I think this is one of the biggests reasons you are blocking. You are tensing/reacting to...
