Yes this was a very long, difficult, and fun project.

I think that it actually was 4 years, not 3. I've looked back at some early e-mails from when we began working on it. It was definitely 4 years.

In addition to retyping Kring's Thesis, I actually rewrote and edited a great deal of it while I retyped. That project alone was very time consuming, plus the additional research to take the history from 1959 to 2007.

Jan's right, we both did our share of cussing as we steered the project forward. I'm happy to say that it was a blast working together; a zillion e-mails, phone calls, trips to CA, and I don't know how many drafts and revisions before we were finally ready to send it to the printer. And then, of course, even after printing, I found dozens of typos and small errors that will need to be corrected in the next edition.

But once and for all, we've got a pretty reliable resource text for all of those occasions when we decide to write a research paper or give a a presentation for school. And it's also just a lot of fun to look through at all of those pictures and newspaper articles from the past.

Got the book yesterday and man, what a great piece of work! Very interesting way to present so much material. I read through some of the years when you were jumping and then the years when I was jumping and it brought back so many many memories. That picture of you near the cloud nine was taken the first year that you got me a “field passâ€

Jan ..... got the book!!!!

Great! Everyone should have it. It should be the Bible of Pole Vaulting.... Every young jumper NEEDS to read this if they want to evolve into a better vaulter.... we learn from history.

Dear Jan,

How are you? How is Chelsea doing? I hope her hand/wrist is healing fast. She has been looking amazing!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE the new pole-vault book. I keep it on my desk in my office and everyone who stops by looks at it and wants one! It's great how you dedicated so much time, effort, and heart into it.

You know, the pole-vaulting world is awesome... whenever I start feeling a bit silly about my passion for the vault I realize we are all one big family with the same love and interest in something wonderful that doesn't get mixed up in the chaos of the world. I also really appreciate you being there for me from the beginning. You, as you know, were the start to my vaulting life and have been so supportive and fun throughout. I want to thank you for that!
Please tell Chelsea I am thinking of her and wishing her a speedy recovery. I am looking forward to seeing you soon. Thanks for your time.
