University of Miami PV

Unread postby oaktonvaulter » Mon Jul 12, 2010 4:39 pm

I'm an incoming freshman to the U and I was wondering if anybody knew around what height I would need to be able to walk-on to the team?

At the moment I have an officiated PR of 10'6". but since the end of Outdoor I've cleared 12'6" unofficiated and am working on improving more to hopefully clear 14' by the time I leave for school.

Also, I'm a guy.

First question would be, which U of Miami?

The only way you can know the answer to this question is to email the coach of the school.

Miami (FL) scholarship standards:

http://hurricanesports.cstv.com/auto_pd ... -standards

I would assume their walk on standards are probably 15 or 15-6. Keep in mind the ACC is a tough conference for pole vaulters.

As for Miami (OH) I couldn't find anything but I would think their standards maybe 14-15 somewhere in there. Your best bet is to maybe email the coach and find out if this is the miami you were talking about.

Good Luck!

it's probably in that range. It might be more but again the acc is really tough you've got 3 of the best programs in the country for pole vault (vt, unc, duke) Just look at conference from this year.

Clemson is getting back up there again. They had a few down years but I will admit they're picking it back up.

(Pains me to say that a little though. I am a Gamecock fan for life after all ;) haha. )

Which program are you referring to, clemson guys or girls? Although i dont think either have had down years recently

In 2008 mitch greeley was the NCAA runner up, pr over 5.50 (5.56m)
In 2010 xavier tromp jumped 5.50 despite multiple injuries,

and since lets say 05, they have had multiple 17 footers (Mitch, Xavier, Chris Spear, Andrew Kessler)

I would say clemson has been more of a vault school than Duke in recent history. I dont believe Duke has had a 17ft vaulter since Brent Warner back in 2003. They have had some strong females though. Their second girl stepped up and had a great year after Lara Jones transferred out west. I would consider the mens side of the ACC to be VT (5.55, 5.42, 5.40, 5.18, 5.01 all returning), Clemson (5.50, 5.24 neither returning), UNC (5.34, 5.30 both returning)

probably girls. idk i've grown up in sc and it seems like they way i was told they had a few years where they weren't quite at the level they normally are. don't worry i know all about mitch. and i know recently (past 2 years) of a few guy vaulters from the state who wanted to go to clemson but went to other schools because of how good they are.
