Strong day for pole vaulters as Hokies close VT Invite
Hunter Hall clears a provisionally-qualifying 17-03
January 10, 2009
Track & Field vs. Virginia Tech Invitational

Hunter Hall provisionally qualifies in pole vault :: Box Score BLACSKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech track and field squads had strong performances in the pole vault and the 4x400-meter relay squads on Saturday, as the Hokies closed out the Virginia Tech Invitational at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.

“This meet primarily was to get everyone started after the break,” Tech Director of Track and Field said. “For the most part, the kids are where they need to be right now. It is good to have an early meet to gauge where we are right now.”

A pair of Tech pole vaulters had career days on Saturday. Sophomore Hunter Hall bettered his personal best by over four inches, as he took second with a clearance of 17-03 in the seeded section of the event. The mark provisionally qualified Hall for the NCAA Indoor Championships. In the unseeded section of the pole vault, Mike Miller cleared a career-best height of 15-09 in his first attempt at the height to win the event.

The women’s 4x400-meter relay squad capped off the successful meet for Tech, as the quartet of junior Queen Harrison, junior Kristi Castlin, freshman Leslie Aririguzo and freshman Aunye Boone earned fourth place with a time of 3:49.15. Junior Asia Washington, senior Shakirra Pinnock, freshman Ogechi Nwaneri and freshman Taylore Williams, who were also running for the Hokies as a unit, took fifth place in the event with a time of 3:49.71.

The Hokies will continue the homestand next weekend, as Tech hosts the VT Hokie Invitational on Jan. 9 and 10 at the Rector Field House. Results will be posted on hokiesports.com following the meet.
