Grip around 16 feet mid around 53'
The slow swing has always been an issue, but working on it hard.

BEAST! Scariest thing is it is easy to look at that vault and spot a lot of things that he can improve on, meaning he is no where close to his potential. Big things to come

Whitt’s Personal Record Leads ORU in Pole Vault Competition

Tulsa—Oral Roberts’ sophomore, Jack Whitt (Norman, OK), turned in a personal best 18’4.5 (5.60m) at the ORU Pole Vault Competition this past Saturday, a score that led the field of 11 competitors and is currently the top result in collegiate pole vault so far this season.

Held on Saturday, December 11 in the HA Chapman Center, the ORU Pole Vault competition was a non-conference event that did not count towards ORU’s regular season record. The individual scores, however, are valid in the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Track and Field results.

The Golden Eagles held the top four spots in a field that featured four unattached participants and two competitors from Crowley Junior College.

Dustin Gehrke ranked second for ORU with a 16’6 result, while Joel Miller turned in a 15’0 and Jared Jirele scored a 14’6.

ORU opens the regular season on January 12-13 at Wichita State.

Complete Results: 1. Jack Whitt(ORU)- 18'4.5 (5.60m) 2. Dustin Gehrke(ORU)- 16'6 3. Joel Miller(ORU)- 15'0 4. Jared Jirele(ORU)-14'6 5. Sean Nickell(unattached)-13'0 6. Jeff Hanock(unattached)-12'0 7. Ken Ellis(unattched)-11'6 8. Seth Lewendowski(ORU)-11'0 9. Rob Perry(unattached)-7'0 10. Mike McLeod(Crowley)-NH 11. Rick Valcin(Crowley)-NH

Hye

The swing for a tall guy can be an issue just because of the “physics” of rotation. But a “fast” long lever creates more force which can translate into more “pop”/height from the top of the pole than a fast short lever.

Tully was tall but swung fast.. and for a tall guy to swing fast with as little tuck as possible there has to be “impulse” or initiation of the swing even before the takeoff toe leaves the runway..

Try this “thought” process..

a faster swing can come form ..

a little quicker last two steps..

run "through" the takeoff toward the back of the pit not just “too” the takeoff. the chest and lead knee drive forward not “UP”.

Reach (extennnnddddd the body) stretch higher from the tips of the fingers to the tips of the takeoff toe... just "before" or as the pole tip hits the back of the box.. let the air out and stretch high… (this is where Petrov said all vaulters (especially American) with the exception of Bubka were making their biggest mistake)

This will give you the force to swing fast…

Tully called it “swing like hell” and race the pole to vertical……

Keep up the good work..

it's looking great...
