Would you use online registration for the summit?
I'd like to see who would use online registration for the vault summit rather than the mail-in registration. Even if you got the mailer, would you go online instead? (this would also include buying a Tshirt and all that other stuff that's on the mailer)

It would be very simple to do, but I can see why they may not want to do it online. Since most of the competitors are in high school and are minors, they need permission from the parent in the form of a signature. I know a kid can fake a parent's signature, but its very hard to verify someone age via the web, unless they have a credit card.....

2 easy ways around that:
1. Statement saying that the owner of the CC is authorizing the kid to jump
2. Have a printout for anyone under 18. Parents sign, they bring to Reno and turn it in at registration. No printout+signature, no jumpy
But yea, if they're paying for it via CC (whats the point if you type in things online but still send a check), then its prolly the parent doing the registering (or at least knowing the CC is being used)

cdmilton wrote:The only problem with an online registration is that they currently seat people for the elite competition by when they send in their registration. If there was an online registration I would like there to be a way to be grouped or to group yourself with the people you are traveling with.
Usually they seat you by club if you put that you are competing for a club or school or if all the entry forms were sent in together you're with that group. I think it says on the registration form for this year that you have to send in the registration forms together if you want to sit together.
so if you were designing the online reigstration form, how would you do offer the 'grouping' option?
I can think of a few ways:
1. Group by club/school name.
2. Have a seperate box that the entire group comes up with a name for themselves ('group: polevaultpower' would seat together everyone from pvp, regardless of the club/school they're jumping for). this would require the registrants to actively decide who to group up with, and come up with a name.
3. Have the person write in the names of the people who they want to be seated with.
Any other ideas? Comments on the ones above?

1) too many possibilities people could write in
2) people might come up with the same name and end up sitting in one big group! not a big deal, but it would happen
3) too much work for someone at UCS...i sure as hell wouldn't want to sift through all the names to make sure you sit next to your buddies
I don't see what's wrong with the first come/first serve seating they had a couple years ago......

They pretty much do that much work anyway. If it was online, I would imagine it would be less work for them, if you set it up to do all that automatically.
The problem with first come first serve is the unique layout of the facility. When you have 2200 people wanting to sit in a 1800 seat facility, you have to be pretty precise.

I think if they were to group by a club/school it would be fine. If a person can't accurately enter the name of their club or school then they loose out. I personally like doing business online but in this situation it is not that big of a hassle to send in the information with the people I am planning to travel with.
