Huffman roll

The illustrious Jason Hinkin jumped 18' with the Huffman roll circa '98.


ooohhhh the legendary mr. jason hinkin...hahahah :P :P :D :D

I heard that at NCAA's in like '98 in Buffalo Hinkin was jumping really well but REFUSED to clear a bar in anyway but the Huffman roll. I guess he smoked 17'10" but then decided at 18'2" (the eventual winning height) that he wouldn't clear it unless he did it with a Huffman roll. So, the story goes, on all 3 of his jumps at 18'2", he could have been a mile over it, but threw in Huffman roll as a crowd pleaser, and missed all three attempts. What would cause a normal human being to pretty much give up an NCAA championship like this you ask? Answer is Hinkin's no normal human being.

Hinkin also completed a full decathlon... in Germany...in only a couple of hours...while drunk...and in the nude..except for a pair of spikes.

If you ever have a chance to spend an evening with Hinkin, odds are against you leaving sober and the odds with you for leaving in handcuffs.

I see you all know Hinkin pretty well just as I do. I would like to tell some stories but they are definately not age appropriate for this forum. I know he was an awesome vaulter and I wish he would not have cut his career so short. He had a knack for vaulting and also the ladies. Good thing for penicillin.

i think we all have to admit though, although hinkin being a 'character' he is one of the most well known vaulters of his time.... maybe not JUST for vaulting, but well known none the least... :D :D :P :P :star:

and i've also noticed a few meets recently where he has jumped unattached, who knows what he has planned....

He started a come back two years ago but blew out his achilles. Now he's making his second comeback.

He's making a comeback, but its not to pole vaulting. Word on the streets is he's training for the NFL. Thats right, the NFL. The kid's got a boot. Who knows, maybe next year there will be a kicker in the NFL that makes Janikowski and his antics look like childs play!

I can second this...its no rumor, unless hinkin is spreading it himself. That dude is a crack. So many stories to tell about nights out with that guy, yet so inappropriate for this board...it a shame i have to keep them to myself.
