Pole Vault Helmet

Unread postby Maverick986 » Mon May 29, 2006 9:16 pm

Well I know there’s been talk out there about the development of a helmet for pole vauters and well the day seems to have come. Simpson seems to be producing one that is supposed to prevent injury and not get in the way of a vault. I’ll believe them until I hear otherwise...

Well here's the link to the site... http://www.polevaulthelmet.com/ the helmet costs like $100…

make a decission for yourself. I started jumping wearing a helmet and dont anymore. It is a choice that should only be made by you and your coach (and your parents if you are not of age).

Pretty sure these "pole vault" helmets do not meet the ASTM standard that was just passed for pole vault helmets. They are too think in the back. Concerns have been expressed that a thick helmet could increase the risk of neck hyperflexion injuries when vaulters land on their shoulders on the mat, or do a backward roll after they land.

I will post more on the ASTM standard when I get a chance.
