Well, im stuck in a situation were I have to buy my own poles. My jobs allows me to pay for a pole within two weekends and my coach works at Ontrack so I get poles at cost. I go to a school were the only pole we have is a 13' 110lbs Pacer III, so im stuck buying my own stuff. Right now im using a 14'1" 160lbs 18.9 flex UCS I own. I have always jumped on spirits but are wondering what peoples opions on the essx carbons are. I want to get a 14'7" 160 or 165. Iv'e noticed all the poles in UCS's line that end with a 7" (13' 7, 14' 7, 15' 7) have a much softer flex than poles that end with a 1". (I checked alot of them at Ontrack) So im wondering if I will be better off with a 14'7" 160/165 essx carbon or 14'7" ucs 160/165 (ex. most 14' 160's have flexes in the 18's were the 14'7" had flexes around 23) Also ive heard from alot of coaches say that the essx's are 10 pounds lighter than other poles. I just need some opion on what to get. (if it helps - im 6'1" and between 138 & 142lbs). Sorry for the long paragraph.
Thanks in advance

Both Very Good Poles
UCS and Essx ARE RATED THE SAME IN MODEL NUMBERS a 167 is like their 165.
The flex # will not match because UCS uses 14 flex span for their 14'7" poles and 13' flex span for their 13'7" poles
We use a flex span for each size until you get to 15'9" then the same on up. So do not select by flex # use model numbers.
Both poles are very good. Being it is the end of the season and you are use to UCS I would stay on what you time on.
However if you are able to move through poles with no problem of course I am going to recommend ESSX.
Bruce ESSX
PS ONTRACK is a great place to get your TRack stuff.

First of all it is always good to try poles out and see what is the best for you! If you have a chance to jump on other poles or borrow a couple try them out.
I have jumped on every pole exept Nordic and I use Spirit.
Though I will say this. Bruce has a good thing in the works and I do prefer an Essx Carbon to the non carbon Essx.
I say for your height: Gain a few pounds, get strong and fast and you will be on 15' foot poles in no time and with good coaching a 16 ft jumper real soon! Good luck!
